Model Mindshare

Model Mindshare is the share of an AI model's recall your brand holds in a category — how readily an assistant names and recommends you, rather than a competitor, when a buyer asks. Because AI answers vary, it's a measured signal with a confidence range, not a fixed number and not a guarantee.

What Model Mindshare is

Mindshare, in classic marketing, is how much of a customer's attention and recall you own. Model Mindshare is the same idea moved to the machine: how much of an AI model's recall — in your category, across the engines buyers actually use — belongs to you. It isn't traffic and it isn't a ranking. It's whether, when someone asks an assistant for a business like yours, your name is the one it reaches for.

How it differs from share of voice

Old-world "share of voice" counts how often you're mentioned across media you can audit. Model Mindshare asks a harder, fuzzier question: inside a model's answer, how often are you the one named and recommended? The market sometimes calls this "share of model"; we say Model Mindshare because it states plainly what's being measured — the share of the model's mind that is yours. And it's the number Knowledge Engine Optimization (KEO) is built to move: do the KEO work, and Model Mindshare is how you watch it land in the model's memory.

How we measure it

Because a single answer is noisy, we don't trust a single answer. We take the real prompts buyers use in your category, ask them across several engines, and repeat — so what we report is a pattern, not a lucky run. We separate being named from being merely linked (a "ghost citation" helps you far less than it looks). And we hand you the range, not just a point: a confidence interval, so you see the signal and its wobble together. Sampled, honest, repeatable — a measurement you can interrogate, not a black box.

What we don't claim

We don't promise a number. Model Mindshare moves, and it moves unevenly — so a guaranteed percentage, a guaranteed lift, or a guaranteed "top of the answer" is exactly the kind of claim we refuse to make. It's a sampled signal, not a census of every question ever asked, and it can't be bolted onto your click numbers — they're different kinds of measurement, kept side by side. Model Mindshare is a metric we propose and define here, not an industry standard. We'd rather show you a range you can trust than a number you can't.
